NuCara’s Home Medical Equipment division is celebrating its 150th anniversary providing patient care to Iowan’s. Alvin Hammer started his first pharmacy in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1872. The Hammer family then entered into the medical supply industry in 1976. The company then grew to become one of the premier home medical companies in the state of Iowa. In 2017, Hammer Medical Supply was acquired by NuCara, bringing the total number of home medical locations to 11. In addition to these locations, the company also boasts over 30 retail pharmacy locations.
Serving both the pharmacy and home medical fields allows NuCara to offer its patients a more robust line of services allowing them to remain in their homes as long and as comfortably as possible. NuCara’s services can be felt across the state of Iowa and into Minnesota, North Dakota and even down in Central Texas.
As its mission states, NuCara is passionately committed to providing diverse pharmacy and other healthcare products and services, emphasizing excellence, innovation and creativity for the benefit of its patients.
NuCara continues to be innovative when it comes to expansion in the healthcare area. CEO Brian Wegmann says, “Our goal is to continue to listen to our patients when it comes to the ever-evolving needs in healthcare and see what we can do to fill that gap.”
New to the companies list of services is Point of Care Testing which allows patients to be tested and treated for Strep, Influenza and COVID-19 at a select number of pharmacy locations.
The 150th anniversary brings a chance for all NuCara Home Medical’s team members to reflect on the impact they have had on the community.
“We continue to strive to not just be in the community but PART of the communities we serve,” says Matthew Flatt, CEO of NuCara Home Medical division.
As NuCara continues to look into the future, healthcare will change but one thing will remain constant, their commitment to taking great care of the patients and providers they serve.
